So last week, I shared a chocolate hazelnut recipe because I happened to have some hazelnuts kicking around from taking product shots of my Chocolate Hazelnut lip balm for the shop. But normally, I don’t have those kicking around the house. And you know what else I don’t have at my house? A jar of Nutella. Cause I’ve been there, done that and it tended to end with me sprawled out on the couch moaning something about a belly ache. So I had to find other ways to get my chocolate fix where I could trust myself to be a bit more responsible. Cause chocolate should never make you feel belly-achy.

Fauxtella! Love it! A 3 ingredient recipe to make a quick chocolate treat! And if you sub the PB for almond butter, it's paleo too!I’ll tell you what I DO have at my house 95% of the time though: cocoa, peanut butter (or almond butter when I’m in a spendy mood at Costco) and honey. Which is really lucky, because those are the only three ingredients that I need to make today’s recipe: FAUXTELLA!

So I call it Fauxtella because obviously, it is not Nutella. Full disclosure: it does not taste exactly like Nutella either because it contains no hazelnuts, but it’s still pretty damn good. And it comes with the added bonus of being something you need to prepare, although it only takes a few minutes. Some people don’t see this as a bonus, but I do. The fact that I need to make it means that I actually really want to eat it. No mindless eating. No jar suggestively winking at me from a cupboard shelf (seriously, I’ve seen them WINK!) when I wasn’t even thinking about it in the first place. A recipe means just making something because I actually want it dammit. Yeah, I’m not particularly big on the food guilt, and I like it that way.

So when I feel like eating something yummy and gooey and chocolaty with a spoon (seriously, did anyone ever eat Nutella as a “spread”?), this is my go-to snack. I usually have to make a double batch though. My husband kinda likes it too.  And as you may already know, I’m not especially big on sharing chocolate.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons Peanut Butter (or any other nut butter of your choice will be good too. I’ve used almond butter and it’s yummy)
  • 1 Tablespoon Cocoa Powder
  • 2 Tablespoons Honey

Fauxtella! Bahaha! A 3 ingredient recipe to make a quick chocolate treat! And if you sub the PB for almond butter, it's paleo too!Measure everything out into a small mug or bowl. Seriously, pick something small or it will all end up along the walls of a larger bowl and then you’ll have scrape it off and you might cry that it’s all stuck in the bowl and not in your belly. And that would be sad.

Carefully mix it all together until it’s a smooth, glorious rich brown mixture. And I say carefully because if you go gangbusters on this, you’ll end up with a cloud of cocoa power in your face and… well, I guess there are worse things in the world, but it’s a little messy if you mix too vigorously.

Now grab your spoon and enjoy! And if you absolutely must, you can spread it on something, but just don’t let me see you doing that ok?
